About the Parlor
BoDurtha’s Plant Parlor is a boutique plant shop in downtown Delaware, Ohio with a specific kind of ambition — not to be the biggest, but to be the most mindful.
Something as simple as a plant can be a source of joy and pride. We believe good plant care isn’t about perfection, nor is it difficult — it’s about curiosity, process, and presence.
Whether you’re just starting out or deep into your houseplant hobby, the parlor is a place to experiment, learn from each other, and grow something worth showing off.
We specialize in climbing aroids like monstera, philodendron, amydrium, pothos, and more — the kinds of rare tropical houseplants that, if given just a bit of regular care, make it look like you really have your act together. We also carry the tools, moss poles, and guidance to help you help your plants thrive.
Who's "BoDurtha"?
The name "BoDurtha," since it was first introduced to Delaware, Ohio in the 1860s, has always meant quality.
The parlor is named after Charles Hall BoDurtha — a 19th-century photographer who lived and worked right here downtown. He traveled from Massachusetts to Venezuela to British Columbia before settling on Franklin Street and opening his studio on North Sandusky in 1871. You can still see his ghost sign on the third floor of GOAT Local today.
He captured thousands of portraits documenting the most dressed-up versions of Delawareans for many generations.
Over a century later, I started collecting his photographs. I love local history, and the name stuck with me. To date, I’ve tracked down dozens of his portraits from antique shops and auctions all over the country.
In Conclusion
Much like an old portrait, plant care is about patience and presence. It’s about waiting longer than you want to and hoping for something beautiful at the end.
BoDurtha was always rated one of the best in his craft. I’ve got the photographs to prove it — and now I’ve got the plants.
If you’re looking for a plant store in Delaware, Ohio where you’ll find rare houseplants, aroids, and honest, ongoing plant care advice — you’ll find it at the Parlor.
BoDurtha's has meant quality since 1871.
