Sanseveria Superba Care
Sansevieria ‘Superba’ (Dracaena trifasciata ‘Superba’)
Sansevieria ‘Superba’ keeps the clean, architectural look snake plants are known for but in a more compact form. Thick upright leaves with bold green banding and golden edges make it structured, durable, and extremely low maintenance.
Origin
Derived from species native to West Africa, where these plants naturally grow in dry environments with infrequent rainfall. Sansevieria has since been reclassified under the Dracaena genus, though the original name is still widely used.
Light
Highly adaptable. It thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates low light conditions well.
Brighter light encourages faster growth and stronger coloration. It can also tolerate some direct sun indoors.
Water
Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water thoroughly, then allow excess moisture to drain away.
Overwatering is the most common issue and can quickly lead to root rot.
Humidity
Average household humidity is ideal. Does not require elevated humidity.
Temperature
Thrives between 60–85°F. Avoid prolonged exposure to temperatures below 50°F.
Soil
Aroid Mix
Fertilizer
Feed sparingly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength.
Growth Habit
Compact, upright, and clumping. Leaves grow vertically from the base, maintaining a dense, structured shape.
Common Issues
- Soft or mushy leaves: Usually caused by overwatering.
- Wrinkled leaves: Indicates the plant is too dry.
- Leaning or stretched growth: Often caused by insufficient light.
- Brown spots: Can result from excess moisture or cold damage.
Pet Safety
Toxic if ingested.
