Calathea Network Care

Calathea ‘Network’ (Goeppertia kegeljanii)

Calathea ‘Network’ stands apart from other Calatheas—its fine, mosaic-like pattern gives it a structured, almost digital look. It’s still a humidity-loving plant at its core, but visually, it reads cleaner and more modern than most in the category.

Origin

Native to the tropical forests of Brazil, where it grows along the forest floor in warm, humid conditions with filtered light. It is now classified under the genus Goeppertia, though it is still widely sold as Calathea.

Light

Prefers medium to bright, indirect light. It tolerates lower light better than some Calatheas, but growth may slow.

Avoid direct sun, which can fade or damage the patterned leaves.

Water

Keep the soil consistently lightly moist. Allow the top inch of soil to dry slightly between waterings, but do not let it dry out completely.

Calatheas can be sensitive to water quality—filtered or distilled water is often beneficial.

Humidity

Prefers moderate to high humidity. While it can adapt to average indoor conditions, higher humidity helps prevent crisping and keeps foliage looking its best.

Temperature

Thrives between 65–80°F. Avoid cold drafts and sudden environmental changes.

Soil

Aroid Mix

Fertilizer

Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength.

Growth Habit

Compact and clumping. Leaves emerge from the base, forming a dense, upright plant.

Common Issues

  • Crispy edges: Often caused by low humidity or inconsistent watering.
  • Leaf curling: Typically a sign the plant is too dry.
  • Faded pattern: Can occur in low light conditions.
  • Brown spots: May result from mineral buildup in tap water.

Pet Safety

Non-toxic.
