Caladium praetermissum is an uncommon species grown for its elongated, arrow-shaped leaves and bold tropical presence. Unlike many ornamental Caladium hybrids known for dramatic splashes of color, this species offers rich green foliage with prominent veining and a more natural, jungle-inspired look.

Origin

Caladium praetermissum is native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil, where it grows along the forest floor in warm, humid conditions with filtered light and consistently moist soil.

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate medium light, but brighter conditions encourage stronger growth.

Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the delicate foliage.

Water

Keep the soil consistently lightly moist. Allow the top inch of soil to dry slightly between waterings, but do not allow the soil to dry out completely during active growth.

As growth slows in fall and winter, reduce watering. If the plant enters dormancy, allow the soil to become nearly dry until new growth emerges.

Humidity

Prefers moderate to high humidity. Higher humidity helps maintain healthy foliage and prevents crispy leaf edges.

Temperature

Thrives between 65–85°F. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F.

• Leaf collapse: Can occur if exposed to cold temperatures.
• Disappearing foliage: Caladiums naturally enter dormancy and may lose all of their leaves before regrowing in the next growing season.
